From May 17 to 19, the HDMUN Society attended the LakeMUN conference organized by our wonderful partners in Constance.
When the delegation of ten people arrived, the mood was great. We were all looking forward to spending a couple of days debating and socializing at Lake Constance. The conference started with a beautiful opening ceremony and a champagne reception. Two guest speakers shared their experiences of working at the UN and German Foreign Ministry. Then, the first committee session started. From Crisis, to the European Parliament, to the UNSC, LakeMUN had a wide variety of committees for the delegates to participate in.
After the first day of debating, we ended the night with a water sports social. The organizers planned a barbecue by the lake and the delegates choose a water sport they wanted to try out. Our delegation ended up doing stand up paddling. All of us on one stand up paddle board! It was a lot of fun!
After the exciting evening, we set off bright and early the next day for the second day of debating at the University of Constance. Nevertheless, our delegates had many successful and intense sessions, with some much needed coffee and pizza breaks in-between.
Another highlight was the second social of the conference. The Delegates Ball, held at the University of Constance, had an open bar and a lively dance floor. Everyone put on their best dresses and suits and danced the night away. Thankfully, LakeMUN provided night shuttles that brought the dancers back to their hostels safely.
The weekend ended with a speech held by the director of the University of Constance who spoke about the importance of international collaboration. In addition, three of our delegates, Lilia Wildemann, Maik Detlefsen and myself, were able to take home an award. Many thanks to our partners UNA Konstanz e.V. for this wonderful experience!
