BathMUN

In early December, the Heidelberg MUN Society attended the BathMUN 2023 conference in the beautiful historic city of Bath. With a very small delegation, consisting only of Alexandra Scherrer and Georg Dopudja-Herrmann, we were quite successful nonetheless. The conference took place in the impressive School of Management Building on the Campus of the University of Bath. There, our delegates were present in the Historical NATO committee set in 1989 and the Crisis committee, which simulated the Peloponnesian War.

Despite the sub-zero temperatures, we persevered thanks to lots of hot chocolate and bold diplomatic moves. At times, Bath was also quite foggy, which, especially in combination with its historic sandstone buildings, made the city look beautiful.

Our conference experience was enriched by numerous socials that brought us closer to our fellow delegates and the city of Bath. One of these was our visit to the beautiful Christmas market, situated in the historic old town of Bath around Bath Abbey. On the second evening, we were invited to a gala in the famous Guildhall in Bath. It is located in a magnificent Georgian building and it even hosted Queen Elizabeth II once. Apart from visiting this impressive location, our delegates also had the opportunity to participate in fun Regency Era dances throughout the evening.

We are very proud to announce that our delegation had a 100% award rate, with both delegates each winning an Outstanding Delegate Award. Alexandra earned it by being the best delegate in the Spartan cabinet of the Crisis committee, and Georg with his incredible diplomatic efforts and strong consistent stance in NATO.

BathMUN, being only £28 (or about 33€) for the conference and another £28 for the gala, was very affordable and great value for our money. The conference was organised very well. The committees had an exciting and unusual twist to them with crisis elements being added: Throughout the conference certain major events relevant to each committee were created. These events changed the basis of the discussions and hence made them even more exciting. We hope to see more of it.
We also would like to thank the wonderful secretariat of BathMUN for organising such a great conference and socials. We immensely enjoyed both the conference and the socials!
